The month of May is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, but interestingly, on the first day of the month we celebrate the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker. May 31st, on the other hand, is the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. So the month begins with St. Joseph and ends with Our Lady.
Did you ever consider – perhaps while praying the Rosary — that St. Joseph probably went with Our Lady when she “set out in haste” (Luke 1:39) to see her relative Elizabeth after the Annunciation? Like so many other times in the gospel, St. Joseph is not mentioned, but there are many good reasons to believe that he would have been there.
While we celebrate special devotion to the Blessed Mother during this month of May, be sure to meditate on St. Joseph’s quiet presence by her side also!
