“For from the rising of the sun to its setting, my Name is great among the Gentiles, and in every place there is sacrifice, and there is offered to my Name a clean oblation.” – Malachi 1:11
It is important that we regularly reflect upon the mystery of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, and the fact that it is being offered constantly: in every hour of the day and night there is a Mass being offered somewhere in the world! The above illustration helps us to appreciate where it is usually happening at what time.
Maybe it is not possible for some people to get to daily Mass often, or in much rarer cases, at all. No matter – you can always make a spiritual communion. You can always unite yourself to the Holy Sacrifice spiritually, offering yourself, your work, your family, your friends, your foes, and your other intentions to the Father through Christ in the Spirit. The act of making a spiritual communion is very valuable, indeed, and it is good to cultivate the habit of doing it regularly. Here is a prayer that you might say:
Let us pray.
O my Jesus, I believe that you are truly present in the Most Blessed Sacrament. I love you above all things, and I long for you in my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. And as if you have already come, I embrace you and unite myself entirely to you; allow me never to be separated from you. Amen.
