[Since it’s after midnight, and therefore already the 7th here in Rome, I decided to post this a little earlier than originally planned!]
Today is my fifth anniversary of ordination to the Priesthood! Thanks be to God!
And a special congratulations to my classmate and fellow ordinand for Birmingham, Father Rick Chenault!
I am extremely grateful that this “milestone” anniversary happens to fall on the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart – one of my favorite feast days. God is good.
These past five years have brought incredible joys, notable challenges, and of course many ordinary days as well. On the one hand, the time has flown by and it really feels like almost yesterday that I was ordained. On the other, so much has happened – there have been so many interesting experiences. From working in a large and vibrant parish, to serving in a growing high school; from doing Hispanic ministry, to coming to Italy and studying canon law… In all of this I have met many wonderful, holy people. I wish that I could thank everyone personally. To those whom I have failed or offended in any way, I beg pardon.
To celebrate this day – and since it’s a Solemnity, so usual Friday penitential rules don’t apply! – I am planning to take some of my friends here out for a celebratory dinner this evening. And in my grateful prayers I will be remembering in a special way my family, my friends, those who have supported me in so many ways over the years, my teachers, my parishioners, and the many other people whom I’ve met. To each and to all – and most of all, to Our Lord: THANK YOU!
