This Sunday’s Mass readings present us with two scenes involving children who died and a grieving parent who was left behind. They were granted the resuscitation of their children, as a revelation and prefigurement of Christ’s Resurrection. For those who have died in our time, we await the resurrection at the last day.
I think we all know or know of people who share the grief of the parents in today’s readings. Here is a prayer that we can say for their beloved deceased:
Lord God, source and destiny of our lives, in Your loving providence You gave us [Name] to grow in wisdom, age, and grace. Now You have called him/her to Yourself. We grieve over the loss of one so young, and struggle to understand Your purpose. Draw him/her to Yourself and give him/her full stature in Christ. May he/she stand with all the angels and saints, who know Your love and praise Your saving will. Amen.
