Preparing for Retreat

Starting this coming Monday, September 2nd, I will be making my annual retreat. While I usually enjoy doing so at the excellent Dominican Monastery of St. Jude, back home in Alabama {note: look at their site, send them money, send them your daughters, visit them, etc.}, this year I decided to go someplace here in the Old World instead. More on that in due time.

Canon Law says that priests and deacons are “bound to make time for spiritual retreats” (c. 276 § 2 n. 4); in the Diocese of Birmingham, as in most dioceses, there is an annual retreat organized for all the priests (and I believe the deacons have their own as well). These last few years that I’ve been on assignment in Rome, I have not been able to attend that retreat, though I did in the past. In addition, many priests choose also to make a private retreat each year.

Be sure to send me your prayer requests soon, using the blog’s Prayer Request Form, so that I can include them in my retreat prayers!

(PLEASE only send them through this form – I get a lot of requests whenever I do this and it helps if they all come in through the same format.)
