Undoer of Knots

Since he was elected one of the things that we have learned about Pope Francis is of his great devotion to Our Lady. This is no surprise – I don’t know any priest who doesn’t have a great love for Mary, and if I ever met one I’m not sure how I’d handle it. That wouldn’t be right!

Anyway, one of Pope Francis’ devotions is one that he picked up during a brief academic stint he did in Germany. It comes from a church in the city of Augsburg, in Bavaria, not too far from Munich.

Our Lady, Undoer of Knots!

Now I know who to pray to when I wash my amices. (A little priest humor there.)

Then-Father Jorge Bergoglio brought this devotion with him back to Argentina, popularized it there (especially during his time as Archbishop), and now apparently it is quite common in that part of the world. Read the beautiful (and brief) history of it here.

What “knots” do you have in your life that need untying? Marriage difficulties? Unemployment? Financial troubles? Grief and sorrow? Forgiveness? Wounds that won’t heal? Etc… There are so many. Let us all turn to our Blessed Mother under this wonderful title and ask her for her powerful intercession and help!

I note that the company “Catholic to the Max” has a booklet coming out soon about this devotion. They also have lovely framed images (now I know what to put on my Christmas list!).

Our Lady, Undoer of Knots, pray for us!
