Ave Maria

Here is the Madonnella, or Marian shrine, attached to the corner of the building where I live.

Ave Maria

This image dates to the beginning of the 1800s. The frame around it – with two angels bowed in prayer, a Holy Spirit dove, and rays of light – appears to be made of wood, but is actually of stucco.

I recently obtained permission to republish an excellent article narrating the fascinating history of the Roman Madonnelle, and I plan to put it on the blog soon.

I a so sorry we ran through with the school tour and didn’t get to see any of the small churches and the images you have been posting. I doubt that I will ever return and I get to see them through your eyes. Thank you and God Bless
