It is important to remember today that many years before the Pilgrims celebrated the first Thanksgiving, there were Catholic priests in our land celebrating the greatest act of thanksgiving, the Most Holy Eucharist – the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Since at least the year 1559 – if not earlier – Catholic missionaries from Spain and France were in what would later become the United States of America, offering the Most Holy Eucharist.
We give thanks to God for all the blessings (and all the crosses) of the past year. We have so much for which to be thankful.
A happy Thanksgiving to all! Go to Mass, if you can!
