Rome in 1493

Here’s a nice engraving of the city of Rome as it was in 1493, from an old German book – some of the buildings pictured are still standing.

Close to the center there is the 12th/13th century church of Santo Spirito in Sassia; the Pantheon is across the river to the left of that; Castel Sant’Angelo is there on the right; etc.

The old Basilica of St. Peter is pictured, though: construction on the current one was started a little over 10 years after this engraving was made!
