Looking up into Heaven

Here is the a photo that I took on June 13, 2012 of the remarkable trompe l’oeil ceiling in the Jesuit church of St. Ignatius (Sant’Ignazio) in Rome. It was frescoed by the Jesuit brother, Andrea Pozzo, about the year 1690. The surface is one of a gentle curved vault ceiling, painted in such a way as to appear to have great depth – or rather, height.

    Beautiful! (And dizzying.)

Wow. The illusion translates really well in this photograph. I feel like I could fall into my tablet.
