The Italian View of St. Patrick

I was out for lunch today with a visiting priest friend, another priest, and some seminarians.

One of the guys mentioned to the waiter that it was St. Patrick’s Day; in Italian, St. Patrick is “San Patrizio” (with the “z” pronounced the same way as in the word “pizza”).

The waiter’s response was basically to the effect of: Oh, that’s not one of our saints.

I guess when your country has its own catalog of local saints, other people’s saints are just not that interesting!

One Response to The Italian View of St. Patrick

Well, as a man of Italian ancestry and…I hope, good Catholic stock…I claim St. Patrick as one of “our Saints”. Happy Saint Patrick’s Day Father! Thanks for everything you do.
