Our Father Bead

The widespread practice is to offer the first three Hail Marys of the rosary “for an increase in faith, hope, and charity”.

But I don’t have the impression that there is as widespread a practice with regard to the first Our Father.

My Pope Francis rosary (note the image on the connecting medal). I bought it at the Basilica of St. Mary Major.

I usually offer it “for the health and protection of our Holy Father“.

For what special intention do you offer your first Our Father?

I offer the last three beads for the intention of the Holy Father.
I offer all the the last two our father beads for the repose of my families souls!
I offer the first two our fathers for my wife and children

  2. Mary Cameron says:

On the first “Our Father” bead, I too, pray for the pope. But I also pray for my parish priests and my favorite priest bloggers (including you!) I used to say all your names, but God knows who you are, so now I just say “For the Holy Father and all my priests.”

Once I made a vow to say the rosary every day for the rest of my life for the intention of a person who was an alcoholic. One year to the day later, that person woke up and thought, “I’m done drinking,” and hasn’t had a drink since, is going to Mass, etc.

So anyway, Father Jerabek,I have to pray the rosary every day, so I pray for you, too, every day!

  3. I always offer thye first bead for “World Peace through the Immaculate Heart of Mary”. Our Lady at Fatima requested that we pray the Rosary for this intention!

  4. Anita Moore says:

I am a lay Dominican, so instead of starting with the Creed, the Our Father, the three Hail Marys and the Glory Be, I begin the Rosary the Dominican way:

    V. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
    R. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
    V. Lord, open my lips.
    R. And my mouth shall proclaim thy praise.
    V. God, come to my assistance.
    R. Lord, make haste to help me.
Glory Be…Alleluia (Lent: Praise be to You, King of eternal glory).

Then launch straight into the Mysteries.

But occasionally I open my Rosary the standard way; and when I do, I offer the first Our Father to pray for divine assistance.

  5. Stephen Lee says:

St. Louise De Montfort Said to offer the Creed in honor of the mysteries of our faith, the first Our Father bead in honor of the Unity of God and the three Hail Mary beads in honor of the Trinity and then he adds the traditional prayer for Faith, Hope and Charity.

  6. mm says:

I offer for the Holy Father, for his intentions and needs.

  7. I offer the 1st Our Father for the intentions that I was asked to pray for. I conclude with prayers for the Holy Father.
