Harvard “black mass” Updates

These have been hectic days for me (and will continue to be so), so I have not been able to keep up with every latest statement and planned holy hour and everything else that is happening with the “black mass” that is scheduled to be held this evening in connection with a group from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. However, I note the following, which I copy from the New Liturgical Movement blog:

The Archdiocese of Boston has released the following statement:

The Catholic community in the Archdiocese of Boston expresses its deep sadness and strong opposition to the plan to stage a “black mass” on the campus of Harvard University in Cambridge.

For the good of the Catholic faithful and all people, the Church provides clear teaching concerning Satanic worship. This activity separates people from God and the human community, it is contrary to charity and goodness, and it places participants dangerously close to destructive works of evil.

In a recent statement, Pope Francis warned of the danger of being naïve about or underestimating the power of Satan, whose evil is too often tragically present in our midst. We call upon all believers and people of good will to join us in prayer for those who are involved in this event, that they may come to appreciate the gravity of their actions, and in asking Harvard to disassociate itself from this activity.

The following events are taking place this evening at the same time as the ‘black mass’ planned by the group at Harvard:

Campus Ministry of the Archdiocese of Boston
Monday, May 12 at
7pm for Exposition and Adoration at the MIT chapel (corner of Mass Ave and Amherst Street).
A Eucharistic procession will leave the chapel at approximately 7.15pm and process up Mass Ave to St. Paul Church in Cambridge.

Holy Hour Planned by St Paul Parish in Response
Monday, May 12
 8-9pm
 St. Paul’s Church
, 29 Mt Auburn St, Cambridge, MA

The Catholic Herald blogger Francis Phillips has written about this here. There are a number of online petitions herehere and for Harvard alumni, here.

Are there any holy hours or other initiatives scheduled in your area in response to this tragic and scandalous event?

While it’s not officially scheduled by the Diocese of Birmingham, a group is meeting in the chapel at Our Lady of Sorrows in Homewood, AL., at 6PM CDT. Of course, any and all are welcomed to join us.

Extension School club says it will move “black mass” off Harvard’s campus due to “grave misinterpretations about the nature of the event.”
