Feast of St. Barnabas

Today is the Memorial of St. Barnabas, Apostle – and so the feast day of my upcoming parish assignment. Happy Feast Day!

St. Barnabas heals the sick.

St. Barnabas heals the sick.

I am still learning about this saint, gradually working my way through various material that I can find about him on different saints web sites and other writings. I was pleased to find out that he is invoked as patron against hail storms. I surmise that it is because he was martyred by being stoned to death. Hail storms are definitely a concern in the Birmingham area and we ask St. Barnabas to keep us all safe and protect our property as well by his powerful prayers. Given the way the weather has been lately we probably need to find out who the other weather-related saints are and compile a special litany!

Today I am offering Mass here in Rome for the special intentions of all the people at St. Barnabas Parish. May he pray for us and guide us all to the Lord of life!
