As of this evening I have now acquired the proper headgear for my soon-to-be academic rank (please God, as of next Wednesday): the green-trimmed tricorno or biretta:
This biretta is not for liturgical use; it will only be used for academic ceremonies, such as when I attend graduation at the diocesan high school graduation in the future. It will also make a great conversation piece for the schoolchildren, when I visit classrooms.
The biretta for the license in Canon Law (JCL) has three fins (that’s the one that I got); the biretta for the doctorate has four fins (that’s the one I won’t be getting).
