O Radix Jesse

Apropos of today’s O Antiphon, O Radix Jesse, I’d like to share this photo of a beautiful altar found in a large side chapel of the Basilica of Our Lady, Help of Christians, in Wisconsin. Delicately carved into its travertine front is the Jesse Tree.

Really exquisite work.

Here is a common translation of today’s antiphon:

O Flower of Jesse’s stem, you have been raised up as a sign for all peoples; kings stand silent in your presence; the nations bow down in worship before you. Come, let nothing keep you from coming to our aid.

Oh, I will share this with the children! It’s beautiful. We love celebrating the O Antiphons with the monastic tradition of a bringing a little something special to dinner in honor of that night’s antiphon. Last night, we had root beer. Cheesy, I know, but the kids like it.
