Today is traditionally the feast of St. Michael. In more recent times Sts. Gabriel and Raphael were grouped together with him also. So, happy Feast of the Archangels!

I have typically gone back and forth between praying the Divine Praises, the St. Michael & Guardian Angel Prayers, and the Hail Holy Queen (for Marian days) after weekday Mass. Basically I normally just do what seems “right” on the given day.

I think I have basically decided today, however: only the St. Michael and Guardian Angel Prayers from now on after daily Mass. We need the help of the angels more than ever, especially the help of St. Michael against evil.

St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection
against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou, O prince of the heavenly host:
by the power of God,
cast into hell Satan
and all the other evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls.

Angel of God, my guardian dear,
to whom God’s love commits me here:
ever this day be at my side,
to light, to guard;
to rule and guide.

And Father, we here in Kittery are always fiercely proud of St. Raphael’s inclusion in this great Feastday. I especially feel fortunate to have this great Saint as a patron for his help in healing as I meet patients everyday. Thanks for the post- and of course you know St. Michael’s prayer is said after every daily Mass in Portsmouth- a revival of a great tradition!

BOTH prayers after Mass? The Vespri group is rubbing off on you. It probably won’t surprise you to know that we pray The Divine Praises AND the St. Michael prayer after Mass each day. I’ll have to add the Guardian Angel prayer, too!! Thanks!
